What exactly is it?

 The Wally Ice Fest Pond Hockey Tournament is an Adult (Divisions TBD) hockey tournament that will be held outdoors on the natural ice of Lake Wallenpaupack over the course of a winter weekend. Two days of tournament play will be scheduled.  The tournament is designed for 20 to 30 teams (director’s option):

  • 4 vs. 4 hockey, no goaltenders;
    • All games are 30 minutes in length with two 15 minute halves and a 5 minute intermission.
    • Games will take place simultaneously on six rinks measuring approximately 150′ X 75′ (about 75% of regulation size)
    • Goals are 6 feet wide by 10 inches high. A 4′ board will be placed across the front leaving just the outer 12″ on each end of the goals open.
    • 24-to 30 team, Adult Open tournament..
    • Single elimination playoff games on Sunday for all divisions
    • The Championship Game on Sunday will conclude around 2:00 PM

When will it take place?

The event will take place on the weekend of Jan 26 & 27, 2019; with a backup date of Feb 9 & 10, 2019. In concert with Ice Tee Golf Tournament and the Curling events.

 

Where?

At the north end of Lake Wallenpaupack in the Poconos(about 35 Mins east of Scranton). Two venues 1/2 mile apart: Boat House Restaurant and Silver Birches Lakeside Resort. A skate path is planned to be cleared for public skating and access in between both:

   North- Boat House access & Public access
   South- Silver Birches access


Itinerary/Logistics
Meet & Greet- Friday evening Jan 25th at Visitor’s Center
6 to 8pm Registration, Introductions, Rules, etc…
Games begin SAT- Jan 26th at 9:00am to 4:00pm
Each game is 30 Minutes Running time
Ice Maint done by players after each game- 10 min.
45 total Mins per Slot, Start at 9:00am to 3:45pm is 10 Slots
SAT- 10 Slots per Rink x 6 Rinks= 60 Total Games
Max of 30 Teams x 4 games each= 60 Games(Reg.)
SUN- 6 Slots per Rink x 6 Rinks= 36 Total Games (last game at 12:45)
Playoffs for 20 Teams x 3 games each- 30 Games (P/O)
Ice Tee Golf Tournament runs 9:00am to 2:00pm

Awards Ceremony- Saturday evening Jan 26th at Silver Birches
5:00pm start- DJ, Awards, Announcements, Prizes, etc..

Registration Information:

    • You DO NOT need your full roster to register today! Players may be added to your roster up to  January 15, 2019. 
    • Registration Fee: Expected to be ~$350 + $10 Processing fee/team and will include 1/2 price Admission for the Ice Tee Golf Tournament (only for Rostered Players)
    • Adult Teams must have a minimum of 4, and a maximum of 6, players per team.

A Central Area will be designated as the " Showcase Rink" and will host a number of activities for the families of the attendees of the hockey tournament, or the general Public.  Plans may include such activities as:
